Younger children should come to the Morning Service with their parents
and at appropriate point, leave to attend Sunday School. (Children go
directly to Sunday School on the first Sunday of the month which is our
Holy Communion service.)
Afternoon Sunday School meets at 2.30pm in Oakfield Community Centre.
Confirmation
2009
At the evening service on 17th May
2009, The Bishop Right Reverend Alan
Abernethy preformed a confirmation service at St Nicholas. Thirteen
young people and three adults were confirmed during the service and
received their first communion to finish the service.
The candidates were supported by family and friends during the service
and it was pleasing to see so many there to give the support.
Confirmation is an important step in the lives of the young people and
adults. Confirmation is the public acknowledgment of their faith in
Christ and fulfilling the promises made on their behalf during their
baptism.
The candidates took part in four weeks of preparation and instruction
led by Andrew Campbell the youth minister in the church.
It is a joy to see young people who came through the Sunday school and
bible classes coming forward to confirmation establishing themselves as
members of the church. We look forward to seeing them grow and flourish
and their commitment to the christian life prosper and grow through the
years. Eventually they will be the church and as the more mature
members of the church retire from active duty these younger fresh
christians will step into the various rolls within the church carrying
the christian faith into the community for the future.
We also had three adults take confirmation and this is a testament to
the good work of the ministry team in the church. These adults having
attended church and hearing the ministry have decided to come forward
and commit to the christian life thus adding much need strength to the
body of the church.
As a church we welcome these adults and young people and we will
continue to support them in their walk with Christ.
After the service we retired to the church halls where everyone enjoyed
fellowship and refreshments. The newly confirmed were congratulated and
many of the members of the church took the opportunity to give words of
encouragement and support.
